Innovative and reliable software and hardware
solutions deliver cost-effective modern healthcare for Penang Adventist
Hospital's expansion plans.
31 October 2002 -- Sun Microsystems and novaHEALTH
today announced that they have been selected by Penang Adventist
Hospital (PAH) to implement a consolidated system architecture and
a hospital & patient portal to achieve potential savings of
10 to 15% a year over its legacy system.
PAH, the 78-year-old non-profit hospital, was looking
for cost-effective solutions and system platform to help in its
expansion plans in the region. Its existing system was unable to
scale, and there were information silos and gaps in its IT architecture
and processes that were hampering growth.
PAH targets to launch Malaysia's first web-based hospital
information system by early 2003 and the first healthcare web services
and customized patient portal in the months following that. This
goal is to ensure shorter patient waiting time and delivery of more
time critical operational reports and statistics. In its evaluation
of technology vendors, PAH found that Sun and novaHEALTH provide
an innovative and functional solution stack that offers the best
total cost of ownership (TCO) for the next generation in healthcare
solutions.
Besides offering reliable, scalable, and cost-effective
end-to-end computing infrastructure, Sun also offers PAH am open
standards platform from which future solutions spanning patient
care, physician desktop and mobility access will be built. On the
solutions end, PAH chose novaHEALTH's web-based VESALIUS - Hospital
Information System™ (HIS) covering inpatient and outpatient management,
pharmacy, patient billing and medical records tracking.
"We are a non-profit hospital with a long history
of delivering high quality healthcare services to the local community
- and now we are extending this to the neighboring countries such
as Indonesia and Indochina. PAH cannot afford to try and test technology
but rather would like to quickly realize the benefits from our technology
investments. Sun and novaHEALTH bring to the table a very compelling
proposition that focuses on both our short-term and long-term business
goals - to assist in PAH's operational efficiency and growth,"
said Teddric Mohr, Chief Executive Officer, Penang Adventist Hospital.
"novaHEALTH's expertise in healthcare solutions
coupled with Sun's ability to provide scalable, mission critical
and high-performance technology platform will help enable PAH's
successful implementation of secure web services and web-based applications,"
said Lionel Lim, Vice President & Managing Director, South Asia
of Sun Microsystems. "The integration with our Sun ONE products
will provide a solid foundation for scalable deployments and services-on-demand.
This could path the way for yet another first for PAH"
"As a provider of healthcare solutions, we are
always on the look-out for hospitals that continuously seek improvements
in their operations through creative use of IT. This mindset will
ensure the best in systems are utilised to its fullest, " said
Lai Teik Kin, CEO, novaHEALTH. "In PAH, we found a management
that is progressive and forward-thinking. Hence, we are confident
that VESALIUS will enhance the quality of patient care and manage
operational efficiency.
